L-O-V-E’s Just Another Word I Never Learned to Pronounce

TGIF Hots and Fits!

Ignore the title – I know I always say I can’t stand Katy Annoying Perry but for some reason I am starting to like her. Especially this song.

I am becoming such a slacker with posting. I have no excuse really!

Although I am doing the Winter Shape Up Challenge (courtesy of The Fitnessista) I am not as perfect as I was last year. With my eats, of course. Always the eats.

I am not totally bad either, but I should clean up the diet more. It is just so hard to eat well when you are surrounded by junk. I wish I could fine the right metaphor to explain the struggle.

Maybe I will time my dinners. As in, sit with the rest of the home dwellers, cause I love them and want to have dinner with them, but leave after 15 minutes, which is when the disaster is about to happen.

I had too much cake, long story short.

Here are some pictures for your of someone who, for sure, knows how to handle her diet:

Today I have the day off work (local public holiday) but like a good morning person I was up at 5:50. Go figure. I should go back to napping. Its also 7 AM at the moment and still dark outside. I can tell you that is SNOWED. There goes my marathon training. Did you know that my half is in just two months? Yea, don’t think it will happen.

A lot of people asked me why I don’t hit the treadmill. First, I hate it. I really do. Second, I need to go to the gym, which would cost me more than $35 and it opens at very inconvenient times (I like to workout in the early hours of morn, and they open only at 9. I am already working at those hours) and finally, its not too close to the casa.

Okay, I am off to enjoy some quality time with this buddy

And I am waiting for these saviours to arrive:

100% Whey Isolate

100% Whey Isolate

Image

No. Not Anthrax. Powdered Egg Whites.

Alright, here comes my attempt at napping. Of course, right after I hit PUBLISH. See you all later!

Brazilian Festives + Food Diaries

Hey hey gorgeous friends!!!

How are you? I haven’t posted for two days – feels like a long time. I have just been very busy with the sister’s birthday (she is very special) and all the festives. Today we actually went to an awesome Brazilian restaurant that operates on the “eat as much as you can ” basis. I am not a fan of these sort of…arrangements…but I do love this restaurant.

IMG 7004

I only had the vegetarian buffet because I am not a huge fan of meat (as I previously stated). Trust me, there was so much food in the buffet. Here is my first plate:

IMG 7003

Sushi, orange lentils, all colors of raw peppers, baby eggs, cucumbers, mushrooms salads, grilled zucchinis….

Obviously, I went back for some more mushroom salads, veggies, sushi (I ate tons, I love it with Ginger) and so on.

IMG 7006

These baby eggs were very interesting. Did you know that when I was a kid I hated egg whites and would only eat the yolk. Now its the opposite: I cant stand the yolk and will only eat the egg whites.

We had a really good time. I love my family so much and always have a blast when its just my siblings, my padres and me!

This morning, I thought I would take it easy and did Core Cardio and Balance to start with. I honestly thought I was going to get a very easy workout. Heck, Shaun kept mentioning how this is “recovery” and how we should not push ourselves too hard.

Guys, here are my stats, for your judgment:

Duration: 39 minutes
Average HR: 160 BPM
Max HR: 196 BPM
Calories: 360

I am quite ridiculous…honestly when has INSANITY ever been easy?? But this workout was AWESOME. How many times have I mentioned that I LOVE INSANITY ?

After that I did INSANITY’s Cardio Abs which was quite good; its short (about 17 minutes) and there are no crunches involved. The first 3 minutes or so are brutal.

All this workout talk brings me to another issue. I workout quite a lot (at least 45 minutes every day) and I burn quite a bit of calories (I’d imagine at least 350). I tend to make healthy choices, heck, I claim to be Hot and Fit, but especially in this season I have my ups and downs. I don’t find much help from the fact that my house is surrounded by crap. My homedwellers have so much junk. I have stacks of Twix, Kit Kats, Chocolate bars and Cini Minis downstairs. They also like to encourage me to eat these things.

Image

So, you get the point. I have not been eating very healthy in the past couple of weeks. I do work out a lot, but I truly believe that 75% of how we look comes from our diet. We are what we eat. So, I need to clean up the junk. ASAP.

I have decided to keep a sort of food dairy, where I would write what I put in my mouth. Everything. Not counting calories or anything, cause I hate doing that, but just knowing what I am feeding my body with. I tried this before, it worked beautifully.

IMG 7022

The plan is to write everything in here. The plan. Whether that will happen remains a mystery.

Right. Its Harry Potter time for me. I was supposed to go see Avatar today but my friends ditched at the last minute so we are seeing it tomorrow.

Have a fab weekend. Or better say, rest of the weekend!

Packed Protein

Happy Sunday, dumplings!

This weekend has been fabulous-o, despite all the snow we have been getting. Just so you know, we broke the record. At the moment, my balcony is holding up 30 cm of snow . That major here.

Image

I had a very lazy bummy Saturday which involved doing a whole lot of nothing. Well, I did procrastinate a lot, but that’s part of the nothing. After clearing up some of the snow in hopes of getting my car out of the driveway, I got ready and left to my friend’s birthday party at a vegetarian restaurant in town.

I ordered a vegetable lasagna baked with parmesan cheese and tomato sauce, while one of my home dwellers who else enjoyed the party ordered a Mexican burrito with black beans, pepper salsa, guacamole, jasmine rice sour cream and a side salad. Because we wanted a bit of both we just split the dishes. It was awesome. I never ate in a vegetarian restaurant before (they are just starting to get popular where I reside) and I was pleasanty surprised . Will definitely be back!

This morning started off with some more snow and then INSANITY ’s Fit Test. I didn’t really have to do it, especially since I do not follow the program strictly, but I wanted to see how much better I have gotten.

Here are my results:

Image

Wow. I am very impressed. I feel so much stronger but I am glad to see I have finally got some actual proof. And I think Push up Jacks are my favourite moves!

Once done with the Fit Test I started doing P90X’s Core Synergistics . I do think this is one of my favourite workouts, too. It really works your whole body. Some of those lunges had my abs getting sore! LOVED IT!

As it seems, I doubt the heaps and heaps of snow will enable me to run much this week. This is a problem which I like to ignore. I am going to have a pretty strict INSANITY schedule with one or two P90X workouts, probably Kenpo X for recovery.

In other news, I finally tried Heather’s Protein Pancakes today. The result was…hmm…interesting.

I used:

  • 60 grams egg whites
  • 27 grams 100% Chocolate Whey Protein Powder
  • Some baking powder
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • 10 grams oats

I shaked them all fairly well and the mix still ended up being a bit lumpy. I then poured it into my skillet and after 2 minutes this is what I got:

Image

Believe me, this was a lot tastier than what it looks like. I must admit that I did not use anything to grease the skillet (cause its non-stick, this is probably the best thing I have ever bought in IKEA). This is very filling too, and according to my calculations, this has only 185 calories. I’d double the portions if it were breakfast, and keep it the same for a snack after a nice workout.

Now tell me something fascinating you have done this weekend. There has to be something.

Heathcliff, my love

Jolly Thursday Hots and Fits!

I started the day extremely well! Despite a rather restless sleep I got up at 5:20 and decided to run outside.

For me, if I know in my head that it is cold but still wanna make it out and not let the winter scare me off, I open the window, stick my hand out, and prove to myself its not that cold (considering the fact that I sleep with a tanktop). I think it works because I am very warm when I wake up (now, wearing a long sleeve shirt and typing this, I am freezing!).

It wasn’t that bad but I only did 2 KM because my foot hurt. My other foot, that is. Weird. Something isn’t making sense. I will try again tomorrow.

Came back home and had a date with this guy (while being imitated by a bunch of other people):

I did the last 20 minutes of Pure Cardio, only skipping the 8 push ups + running session because I was going to end up late to work.

After all the “get ready hassle” (which lasts 20 minutes) I sat down to a bowl of this.

IMG 5071

Gorgeous.

I also had a cup of coffee in my favourite cup:

IMG 5073

Wuthering Heights is my favourite book. I heard Heathcliff.

I other interesting news, I came upon an article claiming that according to research, the pressure our knees and ankle joints absorb when running with sneakers is greater than if we were to run barefoot!

Image

2

The research, conducted by a team of scientists from the University of Colorado in Virginia (huh??) studied the pressure on the hip, knee and ankle by gathering 68 volunteers, 37 of whom were women, all healthy, broad age range, and with no significant history of muscle injuries.

They ran at least 24 miles a week, either outside or on the treadmill. They also made them walk in high heels around a shopping mall for a while.

Surprisingly, they found that running shoes provided the highest pressure levels on the joints!

Threre are individuals that are criticizing this research, claiming that the sample group was too small. All I have to say is that I wish I could run barefoot.

I actually did once (shhhhh ….its a secret). I was on holiday in some remote village with my family and I felt like going for a run, but did not have my shoes. It was right after I graduated from high school and done with the track, thinking I would never wanna lace up those shoes! Anyhow, I did it. It felt great. But it is dangerous. Just thinking about all the crap that could be on the road made me constantly look down.

Ight Hots and Fits, my little sis just came back from vacay today so I’m going to hang out with her. I will see you all tomorrow!!

Its Friday in 3 hours! Well, at least for me :P

The Owner Rules a Weird Coach

No idea what’s with the title – I am all about randomness this morning!

Look what I woke up to:

IMG 5035

GORGEOUS, I know!

This is my first run in 10 days, I was expecting it to be hard. And it was.

I only ran 5.4 KM, and I didn’t time it because I didn’t want to beat myself up. My legs were pretty sore and it was very windy, so all things considered, I am very happy.

I also had this bowl for breakfast:

Image

I always have the same breakfast. Always. Yes, I am that boring. Although I might add that during lovely summer days I prep the bowl in advance, let the oats soak over night, and have it cold in the AM.

Hers is what I put inside:

Image

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

  • 50 grams quick oats – cause the gotta cook quickly in the microwave, 2 minutes tops, in order for me to get to work on time.
  • 150 grams of some yogurt – there are only 4 flavours where I reside at the moment. Strawberry, apricot, raspberries and blueberries. I stick to the strawberries. Sometimes, if I manage to sneak in a trip to a country near by, I will have other flavours like vanilla, chocolate, caramel…
  • 100 – 150 grams of liquid egg whites – these totally add the flavour. They make the oats taste like marshmallow. And they are full of protein, so its an excellent way to start the morning.
  • Cinnamon and ground ginger – I heart cinnamon, and ginger involved cinnamon somehow (I think), so I am all up for it).

This morning, I over did it with the cinnamon. Blah. Oh, and the rest of my home dwellers find my morning breakfasts repulsive. They say that after staring at it for 10 seconds they start getting nauseated.
